Simple Motivation

Motivation is the emotional life blood of every reaction you take in life. And while some experts may trivialize or even dismiss the importance of motivation in fitness it is most certainly essential for your success.

Much of the dismissal comes from a lack of understanding of what motivation actually is. It’s not a vague or subjective variable that comes and goes, but is a fundamental element for everything you do in life.

Simply put, motivation is emotional energy. It’s the desire to do anything from getting some exercise to eating well and finishing a project at work. It’s no different than the physical energy that you use to accomplish those tasks.

Yet physical energy is much easier to understand. We know that healthy habits like getting enough rest and eating satisfying foods can promote a higher level of physical energy.

Your emotional energy is the same way. You can cultivate it with healthy habits, and you want to make sure that you spend that emotional energy on activities that produce a worthwhile return.

Doing things worthwhile is the best way to cultivate motivation. You Have motivation for activities that you feel are worthwhile, and you lose motivation for activities that are not worthwhile. The activities that produce a high degree of reward from a relatively low amount of cost will be perceived as worthwhile and you will have more motivation for them. Meanwhile, activities that fail to produce a substantial return will drain your motivation.

This is one of the many reasons why I value calisthenics training. Its simplicity and efficiency keeps the costs of training low. It doesn’t require a lot of expensive equipment, and the simple workouts are time and energy efficient.

Calisthenics workouts are also exceedingly rewarding. Not only is it an exceptionally effective method for building muscle and strength, but it also results in many other fitness qualities like endurance, mobility, stability, coordination, and it’s fun to do.

The relatively low cost to high return on calisthenics training means that it is one of the most worthwhile disciplines for most people to engage in. This is especially the case for people who are busy and don’t have a lot of time and energy to waste. So not only is calisthenics training efficient for modern living, but it’s also one of the most productive disciplines for enhancing your motivation to exercise.

Moving forward, it may be helpful to sit down and assess which lifestyle habits you feel are the most worthwhile, and which ones may be worth minimizing or even discarding. You don’t have to always force yourself to stick with habits that are not producing a worthwhile result. In many cases, you’re probably much better off doing something else.

Your habits should be rewarding and feel worthwhile as much as possible. As a coach, it’s my job to make sure that is the case for you in every workout you do. Yes I have it or exercise isn’t feeling worthwhile, let me help you discover more productive options.
